Before discovery Notion, I had dabbled in other project management & productivity apps, but nothing had a remotely similar impact on my life and work than Notion did. At first, it can seem a bit overwhelming— there are virtually limitless possibility for notions, so knowing how to set it up can seem daunting. But there are plenty of free templates available to help you get the most out of Notion. Here are some of the ways I use Notion…
Life Admin
My Notion homepage is actually called “Life Admin” and it’s where I keep pretty everything I need for my day-to-day life. My personal calendar is there, I have notebooks and a journal, my goals, daily to-do lists, etc. Whether I need to be reminded of something, or I have an idea that I don’t want to forget, nothing slips away from me now that it has a place on my Life Admin page.
Research Records
As a PhD student, I need a research record is a great way to keep track of my progress while researching a topic. It can be used to store notes, ideas, and links, I keep a copy of my thesis draft there, and a database, to store my interviews, notes, and files. The best part about using Notion for research is that you can share your record with others and collaborate on your projects. Not only does this make the research process more efficient, but it also allows you to get feedback from others as you go— I can simply send the link to my supervisors for feedback.
Project Management
Notion is an incredibly versatile tool, but it can be particularly useful is for managing projects. Notion can be used to create project boards, to track milestones and deadlines, and to keep all of your project-related information organised in one place. It can also be used to communicate with team members and share files. I manage just about every project on Notion, for all of my businesses!
Finance Management
Notion is a powerful tool that can help you manage your finances, like tracking expenses, creating budgets, and managing financial goals. I’ve used Notion at various stages of running some of my businesses, and still use it to manage my personal finances. Here are some ways you can use Notion to better manage your personal finances:
Notion can be used to create a budget. You can enter your income and expenses into Notion and track where your money is going. This information can be used to create a budget that ensures you are spending within your means.
Notion can also be used to track expenses. By categorising your expenses, you can get a clear picture of where your money is being spent. This information can help you identify areas where you may be able to save money.
Notion can also be used to manage financial goals. You can create a goal and track your progress over time. This information can help you stay on track and reach your financial goals.
Notion allows you to do anything a typical spreadsheet can— but better.
Content Planning
Notion is a powerful tool that can be used to plan content. It offers a variety of features that make it easy to keep track of ideas, deadlines, and tasks. Perhaps the most useful feature for content planning is the ability to create kanban boards. Kanban boards are a great way to visualise the workflow of a project and see what needs to be done next. Notion also makes it easy to share files and collaborate with others on content. With its simple interface and wide range of features, Notion is an essential tool for any content planner.
Travel Planner
My travel style has always fluctuated between having itineraries when I’m on a shorter trip, to just ‘going with he wind’ when I’m on the road. No matter what type of travel I’m doing, travel planning with notion can be a breeze! Whether you’re planning a road trip with friends or a solo vacation, notion can help you keep track of all the details.
